Achieving a sustainable future begins with evaluating the way products are made, packaged, distributed, and recycled. In 2020 we began beta testing a Houston based pilot program in partnership with POD and a select group of our commercial clients. This program focuses on eliminating single use packaging by developing closed loop packaging solutions and eliminating CO2 tailpipe emissions from last mile delivery.
Most last mile deliveries are carried out using cargo vans or box trucks which burn a lot of fuel and pollute air quality. To eliminate last mile delivery tailpipe emissions, we launched an electrified fleet of Tesla delivery vehicles in 2020 in partnership with POD. This Houston based pilot program has already eliminated over 600,000 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, and we are just getting started.
RETHINKING COFFEE PACKAGING
In 2021, we introduced the V1 POD reusable package, a groundbreaking pilot program developed in partnership with Houston-based POD. The mission: eliminate single-use coffee bags and labels while delivering freshly roasted beans to commercial clients—without the waste.
The result? V1 POD, a precision-engineered stainless steel package designed for durability, easy sanitization, and repeated reuse. To date, this program has already diverted over 50,000 single-use coffee bags from landfills, setting a new standard for sustainability in coffee distribution.
DIGITAL LABEL
Paper labels are outdated. So, we designed something better.
The V1 POD lid is engineered using 75% recycled coffee grounds, sourced directly from Zeppelin Coffee’s cold brew production. Instead of discarding used grounds, we upcycle them into a durable, high-performance lid—eliminating waste while pushing packaging innovation forward.
At POD’s processing facility, each lid is precision-cast with an embedded rewritable NFC chip. Just tap your phone to the lid, and your digital coffee label appears instantly—no paper, no waste. The chip can be rewritten at least 100,000 times, keeping 100,000 labels out of landfills.
Smarter design. Less waste. A better way forward.
